A recompensa
Sahih al-Bukhari 69
(Sahih al-Bukhari 69 — traduzido do inglês por IA)
Kalimah sawaterreno comum
“Ó Povo do Livro!
Abra o Alcorão e as outras escrituras lado a lado neste site e deixe as pessoas lerem as fontes por si mesmas.
Win the person, not the argument
Dawah is not a contest. You are not there to beat anyone in a debate; you are there to help someone you care about come closer to Allah (﷾). Trying to win an argument is a big no-no, because you may win the point and lose the person.
Only Allah (﷾) changes hearts
You cannot put faith into anyone's heart. Only Allah (﷾) can. The Prophet (ﷺ) said that the hearts of all people are between two of the fingers of the Most Merciful, who turns them however He wills. Then he prayed: O Allah (﷾), Turner of hearts, turn our hearts to obeying You. Sahih Muslim 2655
“know that Allah cometh in between a man and his heart”
In other words, Allah (﷾) has more power over a person's heart than they have themselves. Even the Prophet (ﷺ) could not make his beloved uncle Abu Talib believe, and the verse quoted under Tawakkul above was revealed about him. So do your part well, and leave the result to Allah (﷾). Alcorão 28:56Sahih al-Bukhari 4772
Be humble, and never argue to win
When a conversation turns into a contest, the other person stops listening and starts defending their pride. Be humble. You were guided by Allah's (﷾) mercy, not by your own cleverness, and the person in front of you may one day be a better Muslim than you.
“Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee”
Allah (﷾) said this to the Prophet (ﷺ) himself, the best of people, in a verse that begins by praising his gentleness as a mercy from Allah (﷾). He also tells us to argue only in the way that is best (the verse under Hikmah above), and to talk with Jews and Christians only in the best way, not by mere disputing. Alcorão 16:125Alcorão 29:46
The Prophet (ﷺ) said that gentleness makes beautiful whatever it is in, and taking it away spoils it. He also said that the person Allah (﷾) hates most is the one who is always quarrelling. Sahih Muslim 2594aSahih al-Bukhari 2457
So keep your voice soft and your ego out of it. If the talk gets heated, smile, let the point go, and pick it up another day. A friendship kept is worth far more than a point scored.
Be a friend who really cares
Be a real friend. Care about the person as a human being: their family, their work, what they are going through, and their search for meaning and for God (﷾). The Prophet (ﷺ) said that none of you truly believes until he wants for his brother what he wants for himself. If Islam is the best thing in your life, you will want it for your friend too. Sahih al-Bukhari 13
Take them for a coffee. Get to know them, ask about their life, and listen to the answer. Remember what they told you, and be there when life is hard. Share Islam the way a friend shares anything that matters to them: naturally, honestly, when the moment is right.
The Prophet (ﷺ) was like this. He would ask a little boy about his pet bird. When a young Jewish boy who served him fell ill, he went to visit him and sat by his head. He invited him to Islam, and the boy's father, who was sitting there, told him to listen to the Prophet (ﷺ). Sahih al-Bukhari 6129Sahih al-Bukhari 1356
The care must be real, never a tactic. Be their friend because you care about them, not as a project, and stay their friend whatever they decide, as the next section says. And if Allah (﷾) guides them through you, remember the reward above.
Conduzindo a conversa
Primeiro, escute.
A sinceridade convence.
