Islam and the Jewish people
Step 1 of 9
What does the Qur'an really say about Jews?
A Jewish reading
Many Jewish readers take the Qur'an's verses on Jews as polemic: attacks born of the conflicts in Medina. The Torah says God's covenant with Israel can never be broken. When Israel's prophets rebuke, they speak inside the family, and they end in comfort.
The case for it
God promises that even in exile He will not reject Israel or break His covenant with them.
Where it falls short
The Qur'an never says God (﷾) cast off Israel as a people. Leviticus 26 itself curses a broken covenant before this promise, and has God (﷾) remember His covenant when Israel confesses (26:40-42). The Qur'an keeps that pattern: it calls Israel to its covenant (2:40) and promises to blot out their sins if they believe (5:65).
