The Jina, the soul and the Creator
Step 1 of 9
Do the Jain arguments against a Creator hold?
Jinasena (Digambara)
Jinasena, a Digambara teacher of the ninth century, argues that a perfect, compassionate and bodiless Creator is not possible. His questions concern the wish to create, the material, suffering and action without a body.
The case for it
A perfect being needs nothing, so he has no reason to create. If he created for sport, that would be childish.
Where it falls short
Granted that He needs nothing: the Qur'an says Allah (﷾) is free of all wants and requires no sustenance. A gift from fullness has a purpose without a need, and the Qur'an says creation is not sport.
