Your own scriptures, examined
Step 1 of 10
Who wrote the Vedas, and which books count as Hindu scripture?
The Veda is not of human making (Mimamsa and Vedanta)
The Veda is apaurusheya. It has no human author, and no author of it is remembered. Its words are eternal, and the rishis only saw and handed on what already existed. Names in it that look like people's names are eternal sounds, and in each new creation the same names and forms return.
The case for it
The Nirukta says a seer is so called from his having vision: "He saw the hymns."
Where it falls short
Seeing can mean inspiration, and that may be granted. But the hymns speak of fashioning, newness and payment, which a man who only saw the hymns would not claim. A man who only sees a hymn does not say he made it as a carpenter makes a car.
