For atheists: the case for God
Step 1 of 8
Who has to prove it: the believer or the atheist?
Atheist and agnostic: the burden lies with the believer
Whoever says that something exists must show it. Believers say that God exists. Not being persuaded is the neutral starting point, just as a court begins by presuming a person innocent. And extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence.
The case for it
Atheism is only a lack of belief in God, so there is nothing for the atheist to prove.
Where it falls short
Flew's own terms split this. A negative atheist is simply not a theist and claims nothing. A positive atheist asserts there is no God, and anyone who says the arguments fail owes reasons.
